LAUREN MCNEIL ✦ PRACTITIONER ✦

Lauren McNeil

Behaviour Support Practitioner

Hi, I’m Lauren! If my accent sounds a little different, it’s because I was raised in beautiful Aotearoa (New Zealand), your not-so-distant cousin.

I am a behaviour support practitioner with a background in Psychology and Cultural Anthropology, and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology. My work is grounded in a genuine curiosity about the human experience, including how people think, feel, communicate, and respond to the world around them, which is what naturally led me into behaviour support.

About Me

I bring years of experience as a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, with a strong foundation in early intervention. I have previously worked as an early intervention specialist at AEIOU in Australia and within the first autism clinic established in New Zealand, alongside experience in research supporting evidence-based practice in early childhood and neurodevelopment.

Over time, my love for this work and the relationships built with the people and families I support has continued to grow. It has also shaped my desire to contribute more meaningfully to the field.

My Approach to Behaviour Support

About Me

My Approach to Behaviour Support

I support individuals across the lifespan, working with people of all ages, abilities, and support needs. I have a particular interest in supporting youth as they navigate development, identity, and change, and I am passionate about creating safe, inclusive, and affirming spaces for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

My approach is person-centred and evidence-based, with a strong focus on understanding the individual behind the behaviour. I take the time to listen, observe, and develop meaningful insight, using empathy to guide how I connect with people and shape practical, respectful, and effective strategies.

Life Beyond the Office

Outside of work, I live in Southern Gold Coast with my partner Steve, who is also a proud Kiwi. In my spare time, I enjoy pilates and spending time in the sun/sand!

If I’m not on the coast, you’ll likely find me up Tamborine Mountain visiting my parents, or back in Wellington spending time with family, including my five nephews and one niece.
